MoC gives ground on iPad; Continues to lie to citizens
Those of you who have read the previous post on this board – regarding the unfair ban on Apple’s iPad – and who have already bothered to call Dr. Yechiel Shabi at 050-6236001 – will have known that the official government excuse – this time – is that the iPad is supposedly only compliant with American, rather than European, standards for broadcasting electronics.
Even now, caving under the pressure of dozens of calls, the Ministry of Communications has allowed – oh, the grace and mercy! – the importation of only individual iPads (not more than one per person). Tourists, ostensibly, also will not have their iPads confiscated. One has to ask: if the devices are not standard-compliant, why are they not letting them in?
It turns out that this is a lie. As listed in the Apple user manual for the device and as marked on the device itself , the Apple iPad is completely and fully in compliance with the CE-0682 standard. For those of you who do not know (I didn’t know this up until twenty minutes ago), that is the official name for the European Union’s body of standards relating to electronics – including the EN 300 328 broadcast standard.
Let me state it again: the information is marked on the device itself. It is not possible for the Ministry of Communications not to have been aware of this, if any of them has physically handled even one iPad. Observe: these are the graphical markings on the device. [via Holes In The Internet] :

Do you seriously think that the government was not aware of these? Really? Some people will argue that this is all a giant conspiracy in favor of the iDigital corporation, currently holding a legal monopoly on iPad imports. I doubt this. Whatever benefits a given company may be able to derive from the system, there’s no necessity to assume the move has been deliberate in its nature. The problem is not with a given decision – but the decision-making process itself. This is the decision-making process: well-paid, unelected bureaucrats, making decisions on your behalf, and not even bothering to tell you the truth about them. They feel they’re within the right to just bluntly lie to you. The System is a liar.
But at least they’ll gracefully allow you to import an iPad. Just one, though.

This sort of behavior by the government provides the clear illustration that the government is no different then the Somalian pirates seizing cargo ships, confiscating goods, and demanding ransom money. The difference is only in size and scope, of such a magnitude that Somalian pirates or other criminal gangs could only dream off.
It should be also pointed out that this iPad incident is just one small crime that the government is committing in this particular domain that has gained the attention of the public. In fact, all limits on foreign trade in the form of tariffs, restrictions, and outright prohibitions, are of similar nature.
It’s sad to have such morons taking illegal decision and trying to tell us what to buy, where to buy and how much to pay for a product.
Otherwise, there is no technical reason for them to take such a decision….
Don’t give power to stupid people that live under the impression they are smart…..se what happen in Iran because of it.
The real question is where is the PM’s Office in all this. There seems to be a number of situation that point out that the person at the top needs to be more aware of the domestic problems caused be his ministers.
It’s not enough to stand us to Obama. As important as this is, it is not the only part of the job.
